Woo! After much delay (and don't point out what's missing, I know, I know), here is the final Going Merry wedding cake from One Piece for
. I ran short on time, but everyone loved it, and so I was very happy.
Going Merry: Chocolate cake, buttercream undercoat, fondant, and miscellaneous non-edible details, such as the figurines and sails. And those sails.... thought I could find some sort of printable version of the jolly roger, at least, and found nada. So I made the icons on the sails from scratch in Photoshop and colored them by hand (I only have black ink!).
Ocean: White sheet cake (which cracked underneath... explain that one) with blue buttercream icing and blue-tinted piping gel, and various swedish fish and gummy sharks.
Islands: White, chocolate, or strawberry creme cake, buttercream icing, aerosol food coloring, chocolate rocks, gummy frogs, and plastic palm trees.
Decorating time: no clue. Probably close to 12 hours, plus a 30-minute speed-detailing once we got to the wedding. It's the first time
has done any decorating EVER, and he did a fine job.
Definitely the most challenging cake I've done so far. Also, the most rewarding.
